AboutSuse

After attending my first yoga class in my 20's, I began training as a yoga teacher after waking up paralysed down my right side (which lead to a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis). Yoga was integral to my rehabilitation as it picked up where physiotherapy left off. It was vital to my complete physical recovery. As my yoga proficiency grew I began to dream of helping others improve their flexibility and strength. Eighteen months after my paralysis, I began teaching yoga to a group of women, and had enrolled to formally train.

In 2011 I graduated with a yoga teaching diploma through the International Yoga Teachers Association (IYTA). I also attended any Iyengar (the style I was practicing then) teacher training I could - this included teachers such as Faeq Biria, Rosie Holland, Melodie Batchelor and Glenn Ceresoli. I have also had the great pleasure of completing prenatal yoga training with Janice Clarfield, an internationally renowned yoga teacher, and have delved into the world of Yin Yoga with Sebastian Purcelle and Murielle Burellier's teacher training, as well as Joe Barnett. My own style of yoga has developed over the years, and I tend to prefer a more gentle flowing style in active classes, but my big love Is Yin Yoga, such a delicious meld of breath, body and mind.

I've also worked with Annie and Dave Evans, developing a Rock~it Yoga program using their unique, NZ made, Rock~it boards. It was an amazing opportunity to develop a new yoga style from the ground up.

Teaching yoga and offering Assisted Yin massages wasn't enough. In 2018 I trained as a massage therapist in a complimentary modality to Yin Yoga called Myofascial Release Massage. This led to me studying Microfascial Unwinding, which a is practice of releasing the fascia from the inside out. It is a very gentle technique and can be used even in cases of acute injury. I have also studied Swedish Relaxation massage, massage for cancer patients, and McLaughlin Scar Tissue Release.

I'm currently in my 4th, and final year, of Classical Chinese Acupuncture. Studying Acupuncture was something I had dreamed of, and was also a natural progression on my path to offering holistic healing.

Please get in touch if you have any questions, I hope to see you soon xx

What some happy yoga students say:

I love your classes Susan, the homely environment you create for all of us, and your skill in observing and assessing our varied needs. Its so encouraging for others who may have health issues to experience a teacher who has worked with her own health difficulties through various health enhancing ways, one of these being yoga. Love your classes and your nurturing of all your students."

- M Nysse.

"Instructive, inspirational, welcoming and warm – yoga with Susan is a treat! I look forward to my weekly classes with her and always leave feeling energised and encouraged."

- T Connell.

"As a complete novice this has been a wonderfully new experience. Suz and her classes are now an essential part of my week. I can’t speak highly enough of the increased feeling of well being since starting yoga. Should have started years ago."

- L Reynolds.

"As a person with scoliosis, old sporting injuries, and back stiffness, I have found Susan’s style of yoga suits me well.  The slower pace of Yin Yoga, together with her crystal clear instruction and constant encouragement, has enabled me to find and hold poses easily.  For me, the result has been greater flexibility, more strength, and less back pain.  I highly recommend Susan and her Yin Yoga."

- S Connell.

"I can highly recommend Suz as a yoga teacher and have benefitted from doing her Monday morning yoga classes on a regular basis. She is very thorough in her approach, and spends time making sure people are engaging in the poses to the level they are able on the day. She has a lovely warm style and is very welcoming and encouraging, as well as being extremely competent and up to date with her knowledge and technique."

- Tara C.

"You really do create such a nurturing and supportive environment with great individual attention."

- B Baker.
